G. Nelson Sparks

G. Nelson Sparks, born February 9, 1926 in Russellville, AL, died on October 2, 2014 at Huntsville Hospital. Visitation will be on Monday, October 6, 2014 from 1pm – 3pm at Colbert Memorial Chapel. The service will begin in the chapel at 3pm after which friends and family will be dismissed. There will be no graveside services for interment in Franklin Memory Gardens. Brother Bill Bagents will be officiating.
Mr. Sparks was preceded in death by parents, John Nelson and Lillie Hester Sparks; wife, Eva Ellawee Sparks; brothers, Bill, John, Riley, Gus, and J. C. Sparks; and sisters, Lina McClung, Mattie Taylor, and Betty Ruth Yarber.
He is survived by his son, Howell Sparks (Kathy); daughters, Julia Smith (Roy) and Becky Robertson (Rick); grandchildren, Lydia Grissom, Anna Bradford, Lorrie Cooper, Jonathan Sparks, Jessica Williams, Rickie Robertson, and Krista Sparks; and 6 great grandchildren.
Mr. Sparks served in World War II, US Navy, retired from TVA as a Radiological Technician, and was a member of Mars Hill Church of Christ. Dad loved music of all kinds, both playing guitar and singing; loved Alabama football; gardening and flowers; and most of all, he was dedicated to his Lord and his family.
Special thanks to caregivers Michelle, Pat, Mitchell Hollingsworth, and Tut Fann State Veterans Home for the loving care given to dad.
