Joseph William (Bill) Blenkinsopp, Jr. of Sheffield, AL died February 23, 2017. He was born July 9, 1926 in Bigelow, AR to Joseph William Blenkinsopp, Sr and Muriel Edith Aznoe. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Iris Hartsock Blenkinsopp, 3 sisters, Mary, Irene and Ruth, and one brother, Richard.

He is survived by his children, Teresa Patrick (Roy), John Blenkinsopp (Priscilla), 4 grandchildren, John Patrick (Brandy), Zachary Blenkinsopp, Brittany Bacon (Andrew), Jacob Blenkinsopp, 3 great grandchildren, Isaiah Patrick, Naomi Patrick, and Beck Bacon, and a sister- in- law, Betty Bolinski of Eustis, Florida.

Bill was a veteran of both WWII and the Korean Wars. He was blessed with the opportunity to go to Washington, DC on one of the Honor Flights to be regonized as one of the “Greatest Generation”. The high point of the trip was being able to share his experiences with two of his grandsons.

He was a senior operator with TVA, spending most of his time in the Shoals at Wilson Dam. When he retired, he was able to do the things he loved, golfing some with friends, and going to flea markets. His most enjoyable time was spent at the Florence Sale Barn on Tuesdays, where he worked with Roy Hammond selling hardware.

Visitation will be Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 1-3 p.m. at Colbert Memorial with service to follow at 3:00 p.m. in the chapel. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Bill Bedsole, of First United Methodist Church in Sheffield, will conduct the service at Colbert Memorial Gardens, with a graveside service to follow. Bill visited with Pops on a regular basis and they enjoyed telling “old war stories”.

Pallbearers will be, John Patrick, Zachary Blenkinsopp, Jacob Blenkinsopp, Andrew Bacon, Daniel Thorne, and John Webb.

Our family wants to acknowledge the loving care given to our father/ grandfather by the ladies that took care of him so faithfully: Gleria McVay, Vera Thompson, Diane Cole, Wanda Alexander, Becky Searcy, Margaret Gregory, Toni Reid and Pam Barnett. We could not have asked for anyone more loving. The nurses from Alacare, Tanya, and Stephanie were a rock and our information source for needed care. Our thanks also go to the staff of Mitchell Hollingsworth. They made a difficult transition easier by the care and attention they gave to him and us.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to First United Methodist Church in Sheffield, or the charity of your choice.
