Ruth Carolyn Polk

Ruth Carolyn Polk, 83, of Huntsville, AL formerly of Longview, TX died Tuesday, June 13, 2017 at Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home. She was a Kilgore Rangerette who led the Rose Bowl Parade, the Macey’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, performed for the Cotton Bowl and numerous other venues in 1953 and 1954. She married Marvin Leroy Polk, formerly of Bowling Green, FL, and moved to Huntsville, AL in 1956. She majored in English and taught 9th Grade English for a little while. Carolyn also served in the Mothers Morning Out program at the First United Methodist Church in Huntsville. She made sure her family was well taken care of as she devoted her life to being a homemaker when her children were born.

Carolyn is preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Leroy Polk who died in 1976; her parents, James Hardy and Katiebel Reese Hughes; and her sister, Mary Sue Pass.

She is survived by her daughters, Sharon Ward O’Neal (Brian) of Muscle Shoals, AL, and Allison Haynes (Brian) of Huntsville, AL; grandchildren, Derrick Scott Ward, Andrew Hardy Haynes, Patrick Brian O’Neal, Brianna Gayle Haynes, Nickolas Dalton O’Neal, and Ashley Allison Haynes; and a great granddaughter, Cameron Ava Ward.

The family gives a special thanks to Lauderdale Christian Nursing Home for their loving care.
