Barbara Jean Marthaler

October 5, 1939 – April 26, 2024

Barbara Jean Marthaler, 84, of Muscle Shoals, AL passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024. Visitation will be held on Monday, April 29, 2024 from 11-1 p.m. at Colbert Memorial Chapel with a service to follow in the chapel. Interment will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens. Brother Tyler Armstrong will be officiating.

Barbara was a lifelong homemaker dedicated to her immediate and extended family as well as her lifelong friends. She was a member of Woodward Avenue Baptist Church where she served in children’s Sunday School and ministered to the elderly and homebound for decades. Her service on earth is fulfilled and she will now dwell in the house of the Lord forever. She loved traveling with her family, attending Alabama football games, and visiting with her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry W. Marthaler, Jr.; father, Charlie Atkins Brown; mother, Wylodean Brown.

She is survived by her son, Bill Marthaler and wife Monica Guy Marthaler; her dear sister, Charlene Holland (Jerry); nephew Patrick Holland (Sarah); her special cousins, Glenda Campbell (Johnny) and Judy Capley; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Terry Marthaler, Reedus Tittle, Dr. Mark Love, Tim Atkins, David Trotter, and Bob Burnell. Honorary pallbearers will be Ron Phillips, Dr. Tom Whatley, Bob Agee, and Billy Pruitt Bradford.

Our deepest gratitude to Jennifer Curry for all the care, love, and endless devotion during her many years of service in the home. She will always be a member of our family. Also, special thanks to caregivers, Tabitha Scott, Diane Richardson, Beth Gifford, and Dana Davis for all their love and support. A special thanks to Misty Wilson, Paris Hardee, and Danah Gilchrist of Southern Care Hospice for their care and dedication these past few weeks.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Woodward Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund or the Big Oak Ranch (bigoak.org).
