Emmett Reeder Obituary

Emmett F. Reeder of Hartselle passed away January 21, 2018, following an extended illness. Mr. Reeder was born in Waycross, Georgia, on February 4, 1939, to Howard and Frances Reeder.  He is survived by two daughters, Meredith (Wesley) Voorhees of Muscle Shoals, Alabama, and Laurel (Tim) Fleming of Daphne, Alabama, and grandsons Lance Voorhees and Jacob Voorhees, one brother, Jim (Cathy) Reeder of Stuart, Florida, and two sisters, Glenda Bryant of La Grange, Georgia, and Barbara (Trice) Edwards of Mansfield, Texas, two nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Frances Reeder, of Childersburg, Alabama. He was 78.

Emmett graduated from Childersburg High School in 1957 and from Auburn University in 1962. He was an electrical and instrument engineer at Monsanto / Solutia in Decatur for 33 years. He gave five four-year scholarships in science and engineering and six one-semester philosophy scholarships to Auburn University. After retirement, he planted a variety of oak and nut trees on his ten-acre farm. He enjoyed reading, talking with friends, traveling, and geology.

Memorial services will be held February 17 at 2:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Hartselle. The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 2:00 pm.
