Vernon Lewis Johnson, 91, was born on Feb. 14, 1926 in Leighton, AL and passed away on Jan. 21, 2018.
Visitation will be Tues., Jan. 23, 2018 at Leighton Baptist Church from 10-12 p.m. The funeral service will begin at noon with Brother Mark Mayfield and Brother Kevin Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Colbert Memorial Gardens.
Vernon was the ninth child of eleven children born to John Lewis Johnson and Henrietta NeSmith Johnson. He was a member of Leighton Baptist Church, and Army Veteran of WWII, serving as a medic in Germany and was a retired carpenter.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 43 years, Virginia Anita Cleveland Johnson; his parents; brothers, John, Henry, Leroy, and J. Fred Johnson; and sisters, Alcy Berry, Oleta Rutherford, Susie Bond, Mildred Flannagin, Elizabeth Copeland, and Hazel Edwards.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his eleven nieces and eleven nephews; sisters-in-law, Katie Johnson, Shirley Johnson, and Lyda Johnson; and a host of extended family members.
Pallbearers will be, Tom Edwards, Bradley Coan, Claude Berry, Joseph Skipworth, Melvin Flannagin, and Ernest Underwood, Chris Johnson, and Larry Underwood.
