Dr. Robert Clemmons Obituary

Dr. Robert Walter Clemmons, 82, of Russellville, AL passed away Monday, February 17, 2020. At his request there will be a private Inurnment Friday, February 21, 2020 in the Serenity Trellis Niche at Colbert Memorial Gardens.

Dr. Clemmons lived a distinguished life having served as an educator for 39 years with the last twenty two being as a school superintendent in both Tuscumbia and Russellville City Schools. Robert’s education began at Liberty High School in 1956, Athens College B.S. 1961 Math & Physics, Mississippi State University 1966 Math & Physics, University of Alabama- 1971 Educational Doctorate, other course work at Vanderbilt University, West Alabama University, and Auburn University. His professional career started as a Teacher, Coach, and Principal at Liberty High School 1961-1967, Principal at Carrollton High School 1968-1970, Doctoral Program at the University of Alabama 1970-1971, Assessment Internship Assistant Superintendent of Russellville City Schools 1971-1977, Superintendent  of Education of Tuscumbia City Schools during 1977-1989, Superintendent of Russellville City Schools during 1989-2000, and taught at the University of Alabama and University of North Alabama. Mr. Clemmons had his honors as Teacher of the Year, Coach of the Year, Superintendent of the Year of Alabama, Civitan of the Year-twice, President of Phi Delta Kappa-UNA, Citizen of the Year for Russellville/Franklin County, President of the Alabama Leadership Council, and President of the Tri-State Educational Consortium. He was a Sunday School Teacher for over 60 Years, Lay Speaker, Treasurer, Various Boards and Committees.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Minnie Beatrice Clemmons; brother, Sonny Clemmons; and sister, Beverly Beatrice Clemmons.

He is survived by his wife, Carol Mitchell Clemmons; son, Greg Clemmons (Leigh); daughter, Christie Elaine Carrick; brothers, Jimmy Clemmons, Larry Clemmons, Tommy Clemmons, Ricky Clemmons, and Glenn Clemmons; sister, Jane Clemmons; grandchildren, Mitchell, William, Miller, Anna Clemmons, Alexandria Trevino Cheyanne Carrick; and great grandchild, Brianna Chaffin.
