Dr. William Montgomery, Ph.D., 91, of Florence, died on Monday, May 6, 2019. Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2019 at Trinity Episcopal Church, Florence from 12-1p.m. with the funeral service to follow at 1p.m. Burial will be in Shoals Memory Gardens with military honors. Rev. Dr. Andrew C. Keyse will officiate the service.
William was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church for 57 years as well as a member of the American Legion Post 11. He also was a biology professor at UNA for 30 years. William was a Veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, known today as the USAF.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Prestage Montgomery; parents, Marion and Lura Montgomery; and sisters, Virginia Wigley (Jay) and Martha Sue Hettchen (Ed).
He is survived by his sons, James Montgomery (Debbie), Michael Montgomery (Trish), Charles Montgomery (Rhonda), Joe Prestage (Wanda), and Donnie Prestage (Gina); daughters, Jane Alice Taylor (Steve) and Diane Smith; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association and Trinity Episcopal Church.
