Sandra Johnson Glenn

July 20, 1945 ~ September 28, 2015 (age 70) 70 Years Old

Sandra Glenn, known by all as "Sandy," passed away at her home on September 28, 2015, in Nashville, Tenn., with her two daughters at her side.
After bravely fighting breast cancer for over five years, she finally gave up the battle in favor of going home to peace without suffering and pain. Sandy was one of the kindest and gentlest persons you could ever meet. She was a brilliant mathematician and spent her career teaching and helping others better understand calculus and higher mathematics. She had a quick wit and a wonderful, wry sense of humor. Her bright smile, kindness, and gentle way will be missed by all who knew her.
Sandra Sue Glenn, nee Johnson, was born in Decatur, Alabama on July 20, 1945, the daughter of Mary Sue Bethany and Dwight Ralph Johnson. She was reared in a loving household with her mother, Uncle Hansford Bethany, and Grandmother Maisie Bethany. She was Valedictorian in her Class of 1963, Decatur High School and earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in mathematics at the University of Alabama. During her career, she taught math in several high schools in Alabama and Florida, at the University of Alabama, and staffed the Math Lab at Stillman College in Tuscaloosa. In addition, she tutored countless students in math.
Sandy was twice married, bearing children by her second husband and friend, Lew Glenn. She leaves to mourn her loss daughters, Tuesday Marie and Jennifer Maisie Glenn, numerous cousins, other relatives, friends, colleagues, and former students.

A memorial of Sandy's life will be held in the Thames Room, 1st Floor, Bryant Conference Center, University of Alabama, 240 Paul Bryant Dr., Tuscaloosa, AL 35487, on Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2015, starting at 6 p.m. Everyone who knew Sandy, including former students, is invited to attend. Sandy's remains will be privately interred Oct. 22, 2015 at Colbert Memorial Gardens, 700 Highway 43 South, Tuscumbia, Alabama.
