Welcome to the memorial page for

Jimmy Jackson

January 21, 1972 ~ September 29, 2015 (age 43) 43 Years Old

On 09-29-2015, Jimmy C. Jackson left the bondage of his earthly body to join his Mother and God in a new home.

In his 43 years, Jimmy traveled many paths...often taking the scenic route.  Most notably, Jimmy was a veteran of the US Army and served in the Gulf, was a Jail Minister (a cause near and dear to his heart).  In December 2004, Jimmy’s life was forever altered when he became a quadriplegic.  Instead of allowing that to define him, Jimmy learned how to operate a keyboard with the aid of a brace and a pencil and went back to school.  Jimmy earned a Bachelors from HCU through the generosity of donations from his church family.  At the time of his death, Jimmy was working on his Masters at Freed-Hardeman University with a goal of obtaining a doctorate and ministered when and wherever he was invited.

Jimmy was funny, tenacious, frustrating and charming (almost instantaneously), giving, stubborn, loyal, and passionate regarding the things he cared about including learning and preaching the word of God and Auburn.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Eleawese Jackson, brother Gaylon Jackson, many aunts and uncles, and his brothers by choice William Russell and Mark Scott.

Jimmy is survived by his uncle, Bobby Joe Jackson, aunt Pearly Goodwin, and special cousins Ajeana Jackson (aka Tina) and Shirley Barfield and many other cousins.

Jimmy’s life was full of numerous friends and church family who have been there to support him in untold ways before and after the accident.  These include Leah Morris, Calamae Cochran, Myra & David Underwood, Laurie & Jim Goldy, Michelle Goldy, Don Killen, Joe Medford, Sam Marks, James Farris, Poncho Rivera, Wade Strait, Tim Gooch, Cheryl & Jim Azbell, Beth & Carly Harrison, Katherine Harrison, Bob Parks, Terry Oakley, Dustin Culberson, Walter Rayburn, Justin Imel, Kim Nicholas, Willie Hamblen, Jan & Jamie Burns, Matt Lucas, Brandon Sherrill, Ed Ditto, Loren Wisehart, Justin Parker, Susanne Wells, Justin Pannell, Tandi Scott, Brad Russell, Jason Melton, members of the Petersville and Central Church of Christ, select staff at Florence Nursing Home and Tut Fann VA (you know who you are).  To all listed and the many others not mentioned by name, please know that Jimmy loved you and appreciated your support.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to Allison, Kendall and all of the nurses in the NICU at Huntsville Hospital as well as the pastors Justin Pannell and Jim Norvile.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to any of the following:  Central Church of Christ, Petersville Church of Christ; Lepers4Christ, or Jesus Mission.

A memorial service will be held and Jimmy’s ashes placed with his mother at Grassy Memorial Cemetary, 7091 County Road 89, Lexington AL (at the intersection of Route 64 & CR 89).
